The system specifically developed to continuously measure marine parameters at the water surface is described. It has been largely used and perfected for routine field work on water quality of the central Venice lagoon basin since 1984.The analytical instrument is connected to an online PC acquisition system interfaced to convert all parameters acquired and pre-processing them already corrected for their unit of measure which is output on a printer and on monitor, in the form of tables or graphs. The computer programs used, handle the acquisition, the A/D converter, the recording of data on floppy disk and the first hard-copy. The system itself is capable of supplying data in real time with their respective graphs ready to be transferred to other computer systems for further elaboration and analysis. The system which can be easily transported and set-up either on ship or on high-speed motor boats, has been used extensively to monitor Mediterranean coastal areas.
