A simple WDM-PON supporting LAN services by spectrum-sliced technology

Abstract

A simple wavelength-division-multiplexing passive optical network is proposed in this paper. By simply designing the remote node, the virtual-ring local area network (LAN) services transmitted among optical network units are realized. And coupled with conventional broadband light source and spectrum-sliced technology, the network can support the LAN services in a cost-effective way. More particularly, the whole wavelength band of downstream services can also be reused for LAN services by selecting a special port of Arrayed Waveguide Grating. The simulation results indicate the 10 Gb/s LAN communication in this network can be achieved with the help of forward error correction.
