This book focuses on new developments in polytopic projects, particularly on implementation domains and case studies, as well as high-dimensional methodology. Polytopic projects are based on a general reference architecture inspired and shared by the functional organization of organisms and enterprises as informational and cognitive systems, the scientific and engineering methodology and the operational structure of existing self-evolvable and self-sustainable systems.

Chapter 1. Polytopic Projects

Polytopic projects are grounded on a general reference architecture shared by the functional organization of organisms as informational and cognitive systems, by the engineering and scientific methodology and by the operational structure of existing smart systems. The methodology of polytopic projects implementation concerns the levels, duality , closure , center and generic models for specific projects. On account of the change of space and time concept from universal to relational or contextual a generic model formulation, was envisaged. The hierarchy of reference modeling architectures for growing complexity is presented. The 4D, 5D and 6D reference architectures are highlighted. Relation of the polytopic projects approach with general theories in science and technology is outlined.

Chapter 2. Integration and Separation

Trees are combinatorial objects that describe multi-scale systems, classifications, separation schemes, schedules, automata self -reconfiguration , logical schemes, and organizational structures. Hopf algebras and dual graded graphs associated to trees generate separation schemes and highlight the separation -integration methods. Schemes of operations as middle vessel column MVC distillation , pressure swing adsorption , PSA, or simulated moving bed, SMB, of increasing importance in chemical , pharmaceutical and food industry or in environment protection are studied here. Innovative cyclic operations of separation have been proposed as polytopic projects.

Chapter 3. Structuring and Restructuring

Beyond molecular chemistry based on the covalent bond, supramolecular chemistry aims at developing highly complex chemical systems from components interacting through non-covalent intermolecular forces. It is a major field of investigation and has rooted numerous developments at its interfaces with biology and physics. High-dimensional supramolecular systems have been proposed here. The model of hypercycles systems of mutually autocatalytic components is of interest for living and like-alive systems development . One way to study the diverse nucleotide sequences in the genes is to map them into a multidimensional matrix called a sequence space. Each high-dimensional space is built iteratively by drawing the previous diagrams twice and connecting the corresponding points. Doubling and contracting method is examined. Target-oriented and diversity-oriented syntheses are presented.

Chapter 4. Forward and Backward

Mixing , growths, restricted processes and process intensification are studied in this chapter. Forward and backwards models for diffusion processes and combinatorial results for a simplified model of mixing are presented. Local rules and growth diagrams are introduced. Diagonal rectangulation is interpreted as a restricted transport processes. Process intensification methods and implication for devices design are evaluated. High-dimensional transfer devices are proposed.

Chapter 5. Assimilation and Accommodation

Cognitive structures are patterns of physical or mental actions that underlie specific acts of intelligence and correspond to the stages of development . Assimilation and accommodation are at the background of cognitive systems activity. Stages theories and dynamic skill theories of development are presented in details. The role of duality features for cognitive systems is outlined with reference to cognitive architectures, dual process theory and dual graded graphs. Polytopic high-dimensional architectures have been proposed.

Chapter 6. Testing and Designing

Four-phase cyclic learning processes and the associated 4D polytopes are presented. Multi-scale RDTE and pharmaceutical pipe cycle are developed to 5D and 6D polytope . This represents modern ways to cross industrial complexity frontiers by replacing pre-programmed and fixed problem solving methods by self-evolvable ones. The four level structures were proposed by the object management group, OMG, to describe informational systems. Connections of formal concept analysis with Meta Meta Model architectures and high-dimensional polytopes are exposed. The hermeneutical circle has to do with the circular relation of the whole and its parts in any event of interpretation. Hermeneutics implications for design and the hermeneutical polytope have been presented.

Chapter 7. Additive and Subtractive

Additive manufacturing processes typically build up parts layer by layer or voxel by voxel , as opposed to subtractive manufacturing methodologies which create geometry by removing material in a sequential manner. Correlating additive and subtractive processes helps us make objects that could not be made as well by only one of these processes. Dual graded graphs may be used to design additive and subtractive technologies. Hexagonal configurations allow the study of some robotic systems as collections of modules that can dynamically self -reconfigure. High-dimensional configurations are proposed for modular cubes self -reconfiguration .

Chapter 8. Prospection and Retrospection

Smartness is proposed as the key method to perform in the higher complexity domains. The smart factory initiative is analyzed. Reference architectures for various industry 4.0 and advanced manufacturing initiatives are presented. The role of generic architecture models and generic toolboxes is explained. Nano-bio-cogno-info initiative is described in relation with the fourth industrial revolution. Leading projects for different levels of reality are introduced in relation with non-conventional computing, Horizons beyond industry 4.0 and society 4.0 are addressed. Perspectives for smart society 5.0 are considered.
