The increase in transport security awareness after the 11
of Sept. 2001 has led to safety measures and security checks on travellers associated with distress and delays for airline passengers. In addition, these measures are generally uncoordinated and strongly vary worldwide according to the authority in charge for the security controls. The responsible authority may be the airport (most of the times under police), the police or, in a few cases, the operating airline.
