Agent oriented methodologies illustrates the potential steps and offers a promising solution to analyze, design and build complex software systems and this makes these methodologies a significant entity to improvise the current practices that exists in today’s software engineering process. Agent paradigm exhibits exigent humanoid properties. Our demand is to produce a wide range of enterprise and mission-critical applications that has to be autonomous, extensible, flexible, robust, reliable and capable of being remotely monitored and controlled. At this juncture the agent oriented methodologies need to be analyzed and chosen based on our application’s need. The previous analyzes were purely conceptualized and attribute based and the phases in each methodology were not exposed in the analysis. This paper presents an empirical approach to compare each phase on course of selecting the appropriate agent oriented methodology that satisfies each scenario of our applications. An agent based system for online shopping is developed for analysis. Since software engineering methodologies are a quantifiable approach, we justify that AOSE methodologies must also be quantifiable.
