This paper proposes an efficient chaos-based image encryption scheme, in which shuffling the positions of image pixels incorporates with changing the grey values of image pixels to confuse the relationship between the cipher-image and the plain-image. In both the permutation process and the diffusion process, generalized Bernoulli shift maps are utilized to generate chaotic orbits, which are used to get an index sequence for the permutation of image pixel positions and to yield two random grey value sequences for the diffusion of grey values, respectively. Experimental results are carried out with detailed analysis to demonstrate that the proposed image encryption scheme possesses large key space to resist brute-force attack and possesses good statistical properties to frustrate differential attacks as well.
