Abstract

In 2020, the world have seen a global spread of the corona virus. Various measures were undertaken to slow down the spread so that the national healthcare systems will be able to treat infected people. This included lockdowns and restrictions of before common activities of public life such as visiting relatives, going to cinemas and theaters or even commuting to work or school. All off these activities allowed people to be mobile and caused traffic. In our research, we analyze to what extent the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the introduced counter measures in Germany influence the mobility behavior of students at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. In our mobility behavior analysis we compare collected mobility data from October 2018 being collected before the corona virus pandemic and October 2020, collected after the outbreak of SARSCoV-2. In both measuring periods, students were asked to record their daily mobility over a two-week period with our mobility evaluation tool “MobiDiary”.
