Abstract

We describe two types of gratings that have been developed for application in distributed feedback (DFB) solid-state dye lasers. One type of grating is referred to as a "photoresist grating", because it is composed of photoresists. This type of grating can be fabricated in approximately 3 h. In order to improve its durability, the periodic structure of the photoresist grating was transferred to the surface of acrylic plastic maintained at room temperature. We refer to this grating as an "acrylic grating", and it is a replica of the photoresist grating. In this study, a unique method was introduced for fabricating the acrylic grating. By this technique, high-quality acrylic gratings can be prepared inexpensively and within a very short time, similarly to photoresist gratings. It was confirmed that these two types of gratings are of good quality for applications in wavelength-selective devices for DFB solid-state dye lasers.
