Abstract

Construction works like bridges may affect significantly the morphology of a river. Estimating the potential impact in order to propose the most appropriate mitigating solution is considered as a compulsory requirement in the design process towards river construction. In this paper, authors have used the TELEMAC-3D modelling system to assess the variation erosion process within the Han river which is the largest river of DaNang city (Vietnam) for the development of the new Tran Thi Ly bridge. The paper provides an operational approach for both optimizing the Tran Thi Ly bridge on the hydraulic point and view and developing solutions to overcome the weak points of defined design. The paper also demonstrates the TELEMAC-3D ability in simulating and determining the river’s morphological variation due to external factors.
