Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important goal for companies in the automotive and mobility industry. This year, the Sustainability Award in Automotive will again honor companies that make an outstanding contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Products and services from vehicle manufacturers, suppliers, service providers and start-ups from the passenger car, commercial vehicle, 2- and 3-wheelers, and micro- and urban mobility sectors can be submitted.

Due to their importance for the economy and society, the automotive industry and mobility providers bear special responsibility for achieving climate protection and general sustainability goals. Legislators are increasingly formalizing this responsibility in stricter specifications. But consumers and investors are also increasingly evaluating companies, solutions and products in terms of sustainability. Not only environmental and climate protection play a central role, but social and governance aspects are also becoming increasingly relevant. The Sustainability Award in Automotive is jointly presented by the ATZ/MTZ Group and experts in the field of sustainable mobility from the management consultancy Arthur D. Little. Arthur D. Little's commitment to sustainability issues goes back decades, and its many years of practical experience from projects are incorporated into the selection process for the award winners.

The Sustainability Award in Automotive honors outstanding examples of sustainable solutions in a total of three areas. Entries are selected and awarded on the basis of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which address key global challenges in the areas of ecology, society and governance. This means:

  1. The product or solution must contribute significantly to at least one of the UN's 17 SDGs.
  2. It must not significantly compromise any of the SDGs at the same time.
  3. The product or solution must be marketable and implementable. The implementability and sustainability contribution must be demonstrable.

This year, the award will be presented in the categories Mobility Concepts, Technology as well as Start-up. The mobility concepts category covers the areas of services, infrastructure and business models. The technology category is divided into the areas of complete vehicle, powertrain technology, supply chain, as well as materials and recycling management.

Submissions from the areas of passenger cars, commercial vehicles, 2- and 3-wheelers as well as other micro- and urban mobility from vehicle manufacturers, suppliers, start-ups and service providers are welcome.
