The top version of the Nissan Qashqai gets a new all-wheel drive system. The Japanese automaker now uses a direct clutch instead of an electromechanical clutch.

The new Nissan Qashqai 4x4 gets a new intelligent all-wheel drive system. This is said to have a significantly improved response time compared to the previous system. Instead of an electromechanical clutch, the all-wheel drive system features a direct clutch, which ensures a much faster transfer of drive torque to the rear axle when needed. According to Nissan, the response time has been reduced by a factor of five to about two-tenths of a second.

The distribution of power between the front and rear axles is controlled by selecting one of five driving modes: Eco, Standard, Sport, Snow and Offroad. The system not only regulates the distribution of drive torque between the axles, but also influences throttle response, power steering and the shift characteristics of the Xtronic automatic transmission. The all-wheel drive system is offered in conjunction with the 1.3-l DIG-T turbo engine with 116 kW (158 PS) output and only with automatic transmission.
