The new Peugeot 508’s design is also expected to reflect its new level of quality.

The French car hence joins the ranks of four-door models with a "coupé-like" design. The signature, vertical daytime running lights on the front remind the onlooker of a sabre-toothed tiger, but the emblem of a lion is centred on the radiator grille instead. The saloon measures 4.75 metres in length and only 1.40 metres in height and has frameless doors. The sweeping design ends in a fastback rear. For Peugeot, the new design is intended to embody "the brand’s move upmarket".
The interior is both bold and modern. The flagship will adopt the HMI concept i-Cockpit introduced in the compact 208 in 2012. The fully digital 12.3-inch digital instrument is positioned above the compact steering wheel and offers six different display modes. "The i-Cockpit in the new Peugeot 508 is actually taken directly from the Exalt concept car," says Gilles Vidal, Peugeot Director of Design. An eight-to-ten-inch touchscreen is incorporated into the centre console. The range of driver assistance systems includes a Night Vision system with an infra-red camera, as well as Adaptive Cruise Control, Extended Traffic Sign recognition, Active Blind Spot Monitoring system and Lane Keeping Assist.
A hybrid version of the Peugeot 508 is planned
The saloon is built on the PSA Group’s EMP2 platform and should weigh 70 kilograms less compared to the previous generation. Two 1.6-litre petrol engines (PureTech 180/225) and three diesel engines (BlueHDi 130,160 and 180, all with SCR catalytic converter) with 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre capacity are available for the powertrain. Apart from the entry-level diesel, the engines ranging from 96 kW to 166 kW are coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission. A plug-in hybrid version is slated to follow in the autumn of 2019. The new Peugeot 508 will celebrate its debut at the Geneva International Motor Show. The 508 is produced at the Mulhouse plant in France.
