Volkswagen is shrinking its successful Tiguan model. Based on the MQB platform, the compact T Cross SUV will now be launched, following in the steps of the T Roc.

According to Volkswagen, every second car sold worldwide in 2025 will be an SUV. By then, VW will have over 30 SUV models: one of them will be the newly unveiled T Cross. The compact SUV is based on the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform and is 4.11 metres long.

Three petrol engines and one diesel engine will be available for the VW T Cross. The entry-level versions comprise two 1.0 TSI three-cylinder petrol engines with 70 kW (95 hp) and 85 kW (115 hp), while the higher-end version is a 1.5-l four-cylinder TSI with 110 kW (150 hp) of output. The 1.6 TDI four-cylinder diesel engine produces 70 kW (95 hp). The Polo SUV has front-wheel drive.

The Polo SUV comes from Spain

With a wheelbase of 2.56 metres, the T Cross has a rear seat bench that can be slid by fourteen centimetres to provide space for up to five occupants. The boot has a capacity of 385 to 455 litres, which can expand to 1,281 litres with the back seats folded down. The T Cross is equipped as standard with the Front Assist area monitoring system including Pedestrian Monitoring and the City Emergency Brake System, as well as the Lane Assist lane departure warning system and the Side Assist lane change assistance system. Like the VW Polo, the new T Cross will be produced at VW's Navarra plant in Spain.
