First Wind Tunnel Certified to WLTP Standard
This system is thereby the first to meet the new test requirements. The engineers have developed a number of new schemes to simulate road traffic conditions as realistically as possible in accordance with WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light vehicles Test Procedure).
These include making it possible to identify undesirable interference effects, installing an optimised belt system, and being able to generate lateral wind gusts and turbulence with a special side-wind generator. The wind-tunnel flow generated around a vehicle thereby simulates the flow that an on-road vehicle is exposed to as realistically as possible.
No more coast down tests necessary
According to the operator, the system has been one of the most modern in Europe since its overhaul in 2014. The Stuttgart wind tunnel can measure in accordance with WLTP, eliminating time-consuming coast down tests.
