Volkswagen will be showcasing the serial version of its ID.3 electric car at IAA 2019. This electrically driven vehicle is the first electric car based on the Modular Electrification Toolkit (MEB).

The VW ID.3 is mostly based on the 2016 ID. concept car. Volkswagen's electric car features a van-like one-box design. Due to its long wheelbase and short overhangs, the car offers a lot of space for five seats. The driver looks out onto a digital instrument cluster. The control concept has been newly developed. Aside from window lifters and warning lights, all buttons have been done away with. The controls on the steering wheel are touch-sensitive. The touchscreen display for the infotainment system is 10" in size.

The electric motor at the rear axle of the First Edition provides 150 kW (204 HP) and a maximum torque of 310 Nm. The maximum speed is limited to 160 km/h. Further motorisation is supposed to take place. The batteries, which are stored in the vehicle floor, are offered in different sizes. With a capacity of 45 kWh, the ID.3 has a range of 330 km. The 58 kWh battery increases this to 420 km. The largest battery in the series offers 77 kWh and 500 km of range. With a charging capacity of 100 kW, the ID.3 can recharge energy for a WLTP range of 290 km in 30 minutes.
