At some time during their careers, most primary care physicians will be called upon to examine a child or adolescent who has been sexually abused The patient may come to the physician specifically identified as a victim of sexual abuse, accompanied by parent, relative or law enforcement official. In less obvious cases, the victim may present with seemingly unrelated complaints or conditions, and the abuse will be discovered during the course of the evaluation.
