Bain & Company for example estimate that until 2020 about 20 million cars will be networked with each other. In the meantime data volume has risen to the range of tera- and even petabytes. One of the difficulties is that data volumes are so high that they cannot any longer be deposited in one piece of main memory of a single computer or on its hard disk for processing, making it necessary to partition data before evaluation.
