Abstract

Petroleum-based fuels are non-renewable resources, causing severe air pollution to the environment. Hence, biofuels are given much importance as they are sustainable, produced from biological forms, cost-effective and eco-friendly. Bio-ethanol is a volatile and flammable liquid produced through the microbial fermentation process. Bio-ethanol is a microbiological way of converting simple sugar into ethanol and carbon dioxide. This work focused on the economically viable source used for the production of bio-ethanol from agrowaste leaf extract used as a substrate like agave leaves, neem leaves and cassava fermented by Aspergillus niger, Trichoderma viride and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The fermented product was purified by distillation process of ethanol which was determined by alcoholmeter, and the bio-ethanol was characterized by FTIR analysis.
