Julian Bond’s Time to Teach: A History of the Southern Civil Rights Movement is a timely and necessary compilation of Professor Bond’s lectures on the detailed history of Black Americans’ fight for civil rights that counters what is usually taught in American classrooms. Inertia: a tendency to do nothing or remain unchanged; Julian Bond reminds us in his lectures that a master narrative is always created and we must continuously work to combat it, as inertia is the antithesis of progress. Moreover, Bond clearly emphasizes throughout his lectures that racism is not that of the individual, but is systemically rooted in our society through actions and attitudes. …
