Carl Dahlman’s book provides a comprehensive analysis of how the rise of China and India is affecting both the world’s environmental and economic systems. Dahlman’s main argument is that in order to solve the multidisciplinary issues associated with ensuring not only a sustainable environment but also a stable economy, the current global system needs to be modified and strengthened. He questions whether the transition will happen smoothly, with understanding of interdependence and the shared benefits of cooperation, or with ruptures, as misunderstandings of global significance and respective roles in the world order could lead to war. …
