The subject reports the mechanism and experimental results of a newly designed centerless grinding method, which can grind both cylindrical and thrust surfaces of workpieces like cap bolts or shafts with a pinion gear.In this method, a grinding wheel is formed in double conical shape analogous to a cylindrical grinder with an angular slide. The regulating wheel, the axis of which is swiveled parallel to one of the conical surfaces, is plunged in the normal direction to the axis of the grinding wheel, and the cylindrical surface is ground. The thrust surface is ground by the axial force induced for the lead angle of the regulating wheel.High removal rate not only on the cylindrical but also on the thrust surface characterizes this grinding method.
