Part of the book series: Mathematical Concepts and Methods in Science and Engineering ((MCSENG,volume 7))

Abstract

In this chapter, we expand the class of admissible controls by the introduction of generalized controls. Advantages of this expansion will become clear when we study the method of variations in control problems and the proof of the maximum principle based on this method (Chapters 6 and 7), and also when we prove the existence of an optimal solution (Chapter 8).
