Zusammenfassung
Frau U.K., 57 Jahre, fällt auf, dass ihr Stuhl in letzter Zeit blutig ist. Sie sucht ihren Hausarzt auf, der einen Tumor im Enddarm entdeckt. Er überweist die Patientin in die Universitätsklinik, wo der Tumor entfernt wird. Die Untersuchung des Tumorgewebes deckt die Ursache des Tumors auf. In den Tumorzellen ist ein Gen verändert (mutiert), dessen Genprodukt eine zentrale Rolle bei der Regulation der Zellteilung spielt (das GTP-bindende Protein Ras, s. unten). Die Mutation führt zu einer Überaktivität des Proteins, die zu ungezügelter Zellteilung der betroffenen Zellen führt. Mutierte Gene, die Tumorwachstum auslösen können, bezeichnet man als Onkogene.
