Abstract

A knowledge of temperatures within the earth is essential for the proper understanding of many geologic, mineral-petrographic and geophysical properties and processes. For example, temperatures govern the onset of melting, fix equilibrium conditions of certain mineral paragenesis and anomalous temperatures define heat flow anomalies.
