Zusammenfassung
Wir untersuchen in den ersten acht Abschnitten dieses Kapitels die verschiedenen Eigenschaften des Laserverstärkers und -oszillators zunächst an Hand von Energiebetrachtungen, die die Umwandlung der Anregungsenergie aktiver Atome in Lichtenergie zum Gegenstand haben. Es folgt eine ausführliche Theorie des Lasers. Bei dieser geht man nicht von der Energie des Lichts, sondern von dessen elektromagnetischem Feld aus, das klassisch angesetzt wird. Die Dipolsysteme der aktiven Atome werden dagegen quantenmechanisch behandelt (Störungsrechnung). Diese Theorie lehnt sich an die quantenmechanische Dispersionstheorie an. Sie ist zur Deutung spezieller Effekte geeignet, zur Bestimmung der Eigenfrequenzen des aktiven Resonators und zur Untersuchung von Wechselwirkungen zwischen den Eigenschwingungen.
