Was macht eine Flasche vergorenen Traubensaftes zu einem Kultwein? Warum nehmen wir an, dass ein Wein aus Frankreich besser schmeckt als ein Wein aus China? Fragen wie diese richten den Blick auf die Analyse von Prozessen der kulturellen Bewertung. Es geht erstens um die symbolische Abgrenzung zwischen Objekten, denen ein bestimmter Status zugesprochen wird (z. B. ein Kunstwerk zu sein) und Objekten, denen dieser Status abgesprochen wird.
