Abstract
Whereas kinematics deals with the geometry of motion and the deformation of material bodies, the purpose of kinetics is to link the sources of motion with the influence of the outside world. This interaction is described by the balance relations. The basic idea is the free-body principle, described in the following physical definition, which is complementary to Definition 1. 1 from a physical point of view.
