Abstract

Flexibility, adaptability, creativity and the ability to withstand stress are problems primarily in relation to changing and/or complex environments. In simple or constant surroundings an individual or social system possessed of habitual and more or less fixed tendencies toward construing and responding to given situations may perform as well as, or even more efficiently and effectively than a system with interpretive and behavioral equipment attuned to complexity and variability.
