Zusammenfassung

Schlafstörungen sind häufige Beschwerden älterer Menschen. Die Therapie geriatrischer Patienten sollte sich anhand einer differenzierten Erhebung der nächtlichen Probleme an den spezifischen Schlafstörungen orientieren. Hier stehen vor allem Einschlafstörungen (Insomnie), Durchschlafstörungen und Störungen der Tagesrhythmik im Vordergrund, gefolgt von den Symptomen eines Restless-Legs-Syndroms, das häufig bei über 65-Jährigen und bei zunehmenden Komorbiditäten auftritt. Bei einer Tagesschläfrigkeit, oft bedingt durch ein obstruktives Schlaf-Apnoe-Syndrom, muss ggf. mit einer CPAP-Therapie behandelt werden. Eine allgemeine abendliche oder nächtliche Unruhe geriatrischer Patienten (häufig bei Patienten mit Demenz) sollte von Schlafstörungen und Störungen der Tagesrhythmik abgegrenzt werden, da die Behandlung unterschiedlich ist. Eine differenzierte Betrachtung nächtlicher Störungen in der Neurogeriatrie ist deshalb essentielle Voraussetzung jeglicher psychopharmakologischer Therapie.
