Abstract

Increasing worldwide concern for the globe in the second half of the twentieth century culminated in the fervent debate around globalisation in the 1990s. That is a matter of public record. It tells us little, however, about advances in knowledge. Notoriously, globalisation has been both everywhere and elusive.
