Abstract
History: The earliest mineral products used in construction were soft brick and, after metallic tools were invented, blocks of stone. Building city walls, temples, palaces, or pyramids was a difficult job requiring many slaves. While the Romans developed cement, they did not use mass concrete. It was not until the 19th century that concrete construction became important, and not until about World War II that concrete design became a science.
