Abstract
Internal forces are self-equilibrated, form a so-called static zero, and are therefore not examined in courses in statics. The theory of elasticity, on the contrary, sets the determination of the internal forces in a body under external loading as its primary goal since these forces determine the stresses and strains in the body and, ultimately, its strength.
