Abstract
The origin of cassava is somewhere in tropical Brazil. The crop was dispersed to other parts of Latin America thousands of years ago; remains dated at about 800 BC were found near the Colombia-Venezuela border. It was transported to other parts of the world in post-Columbian times. In Africa and tropical Asia it has become established as an important crop supplying carbohydrates.
