Abstract

Man’s experiences throughout his history have taught him much about avoiding sickness and even death from consumption of natural food products. Much evidence exists of the ancient customs and prejudices handed down generation after generation on food taboos, eating habits, and customs of the various peoples of the world. Some of these customs are practiced even today. Witch doctors, medicine men, high priests, and in more recent times, the physicians of Rome, all have had some knowledge as to the toxins present in plants and the physiological effects on man and animals.
