Abstract
Essential to the success of the US rebalancing strategy to Asia is how Asia-Pacific countries respond as events unfold. While there are many studies exploring the causes, contents, merits, pitfalls, prospects, and implications of the US rebalancing strategy, very few investigate how Asia-Pacific countries have responded. This book attempts to fill in the knowledge gap by examining the challenges and opportunities confronting each regional state responding to the US rebalancing strategy. Disputes in South and East China Seas, as well as the latent role of Taiwan, are thoroughly analyzed in order to understand the implications of the US rebalancing strategy on China and US allies in the Asia-Pacific. At the same time, the challenge that the USA confronts in implementing its rebalancing strategy is also highlighted. Finally, a summary of each chapter is provided at the end of this introduction.
