Abstract
Whatever view one takes of the ‘terrorist threat’ and the ‘war on terrorism’, it is clear that references to these issues have become central to everyday political discourse (Biernatzki, 2001), where they are the focus of vital questions about trust in fellow citizens, and trust in government to make public space safe. In this chapter, we will be focussing on this second dimension of trust, trust in a government to protect its citizens from deadly attack.
