Abstract
In 1989, the collapse of the ‘socialist camp’ was greeted in the West as the ‘end of history’ and naturally as the end of class struggle. The wave of indiscriminate privatization that hit Russia allowed a small number of privileged persons to steal state property, while the great majority of the population saw a fall in their lifestyle and in their life expectancy. With regard to international relations, there was no lack of scholars who called for a return to colonialism. And so did the year 1989 mark the end of class struggle or the beginning of a new stage of class struggle?
