What brings together multiple sensory, cognitive, and motor skills? Experimental evidences show that the interaction among thalamus, cortex and amygdala is involved in the generation of elementary cognitive behaviours that are used to achieve complex goals and to integrate the agent skills. Furthremore, the interplay among these structure is likely to be responsible of a middle level of cognition that could fill the gap between high-level cognitive reasoning and low-level sensory processing. In this paper, we address this issue and we outline a goal-generating architecture implemented on a NAO robot.
