Re-making communication at work requires a communication perspective, which in turn requires you to look at the basic building blocks that make patterns of communication and interaction. Getting down to the basic level of elements lends itself to using a “chemistry metaphor.” Understanding what makes patterns requires knowledge of the composition, properties, and behavior of communication matter. The goal of this chapter is to describe basic communication matter, including the distinctions among key elements and common ways they interact with each other.
