The VW Golf gets a facelift for its 50th birthday. The changes mainly affect much-criticized points in the interior. The PHEV models now offer a purely electric range of around 100 km.

The VW Golf can be recognized in its revised form by the redesigned front end. Among other things, it features new LED headlights that are narrower towards the inside. The performance headlights also feature a continuous light strip. The IQ.Light LED matrix headlights are also available as an option. For the first time, the Golf also features an illuminated VW badge at the front. The graphics of the LED lights at the rear of the compact class car have been revised.

In the interior, the steering wheel once again features haptic buttons. In the 10.2" digital instrument cluster, the displays can be shown in "Classic" style with round instruments or "Progressive". The MIB4 infotainment system works with a free-standing touchscreen, which has two different 16:9 formats depending on the equipment. In the basic "Ready 2 Discover" version, it is 10.4" in size, while the top-of-the-range "Discover" version offers a diagonal of 12.9". The often criticized touch sliders for temperature and volume control have been ergonomically optimized and are now illuminated. The new voice assistant IDA now integrates the chatbot "ChatGPT" and has more functions.

VW Golf PHEV with 100 km Electric Range

The drive portfolio of the new Golf will initially consist of two plug-in hybrid drives (eHybrid and GTE), two mild hybrid systems with 48 V technology (eTSI), four turbocharged petrol engines (TSI) and two turbodiesel engines (TDI). This will be followed by the Golf GTI Clubsport, Golf R and Golf Variant R models. Further, all-wheel drive versions with TSI engines are also to be presented in 2025. The PHEV models now offer more power and an electric range of around 100 km. Technical specifications have not yet been announced.

The new VW Golf will also be launched in the Golf Variant body version. A basic "Golf" version and the "Life", "Style" and "R-Line" trim levels will be offered. Orders are due to start in a few weeks. The first Golf was produced at the Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg at the end of March 1974. In eight generations, VW has sold around 37 million vehicles of the bestseller.
