The MoDeRi program for aiding in wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE) video interpretation is presented. It implements the model of deformable rings (MDR), which is a dedicated technique applied to extract certain information from the video. The MDR performs a motion analysis of the video, produces a map of the gastro-intestinal system, estimates a longitudinal velocity of the capsule and detects strong mixing contractions. The extracted data allows for quick identification of gross pathologies and serves as a reference to the video fragments. It was found that certain characteristics that indicate areas of bleeding, ulceration and obscuring froth could be recognized within maps. Moreover, the MoDeRi program adaptively adjusts the video frame-rate, while playing the video, to optimize the interpretation process. Preliminary studies have proven usefulness of the MoDeRi program.
