Concluding Discussion: The Planetary Is Not the End of the International

Abstract

Ausgehend von Kapiteln dieses Buches sowie weitergehender Literatur stelle ich in diesem abschließenden Kapitel erstens die relative Unsichtbarkeit der nichtmenschlichen Natur in der IR fest und verweise auf den Niedergang der Geopolitik rund um den Zweiten Weltkrieg als Teil einer umfassenderen Aufspaltung des Wissens in "Sozial-" und "Naturwissenschaften". Zweitens argumentiere ich, dass die gegenwärtigen Versuche, die nichtmenschliche Natur zu berücksichtigen, tendenziell globalistische Rahmenbedingungen mit sich bringen, die die Bedeutung der internationalen Welt untergraben oder sogar verschleiern. Drittens skizziere ich eine Perspektive, die im Rest dieses Buches keine herausragende Rolle spielt, die jedoch eine zusätzliche Möglichkeit bieten könnte, ihre Ziele weiter zu entwickeln, indem sie eine Theorisierung der Gesellschaft ermöglicht, in deren Kern das Nichtmenschliche den Baustein für eine materialistische Theorie der internationalen Welt bildet. Übergeordnetes Ziel ist es, Bestandsaufnahme darüber zu machen, wie der Stoffwechsel zwischen Mensch und nichtmenschlicher Natur selbst vielfältig, untrennbar mit den Beziehungen zwischen Gesellschaften verbunden und durch diese gekennzeichnet ist - und doch nebeneinander existierende sozio-ökologische Einheiten.
