12. Conclusion

Zimmermann summarizes the key theoretical propositions of this study, and then proceeds to discuss their possible application to different cases in the Middle East and other regions. She identifies Iran and the Gulf States as cases that could potentially strengthen or modify her theoretical framework within the context of the Middle East and claims that developmental cases in East Asia, such as South Korea, could also add important variation in US aid effectiveness. However, she argues that Iraq and much of Latin America cannot be examined within the context of her framework due to the looming threat of coercive US interventions, and, in the case of Latin America, the competition between geopolitical logic and US commercial interests.
