The concept of community usually brings to mind ‘rather more tangible, small, face-to-face entities, unproblematically situated in space’, as Hannerz phrases it (1995: 92). As for work communities, we have tended to associate them with—spatially—relatively bounded groups of people and ideas, connected to each other through inter-dependencies of various kinds. But with connections, relations and interdependencies now being redistributed in space and time, what happens to workplace communities?
