Continuous forests and non-IBA forest patches provide a safe haven for the tropical bird community in highly fragmented urban landscapes

Abstract

Der Artikel untersucht die Auswirkungen der städtischen Fragmentierung auf Vogelgemeinschaften im Großraum Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Er vergleicht die Vielfalt und Zusammensetzung von Vogelarten in zusammenhängenden Wäldern und isolierten Waldgebieten und betont die Bedeutung von Schutzgebieten wie wichtigen Vogel- und Biodiversitätsgebieten (IBA) für den Erhalt der Artenvielfalt. Die Studie zeigt, dass kontinuierliche Wälder im Vergleich zu fragmentierten Wäldern eine größere Vielfalt an Vogelarten unterstützen, darunter gefährdete und bedrohte. Insbesondere unterstreicht die Forschung die Bedeutung städtischer Wälder als Zwischenstopps für Zugvögel und betont die Notwendigkeit effektiver Erhaltungsstrategien, um die Artenvielfalt in sich rasch urbanisierenden Landschaften zu erhalten.
