Biomass refinings utilize the main and by-products of the entire crop and valorize them as base material to produce more than one products under integrated management. The integrated biomass refining is of particular interest in case of fibrous crops due to their low input/high yielding characteristics. Common wheat, sweet sorghum and sugarcane are selected as the fibro-energetic crops for the study. The integration objective is aimed at two levels: Process integration — the sequenced cascading of various fractions of agricultural crops through successive refining and transformation. Energy integration — a total energy operation concept is employed to accomplish the better resource utilization efficiency by adopting cogeneration technology.
