Abstract

Im zentralen Himalaya gibt es eine reiche Palette an Feldfrüchten, wobei 12 verschiedene Sorten auf einem einzigen Ackerland angebaut werden. Die Region umfasst vier unterschiedliche agroklimatische Zonen - subtropische, subgemäßigte, gemäßigte und kalte - von denen jede einzigartige Nutzpflanzen und Rebsorten fördert. Trotz günstiger agroklimatischer Bedingungen bleibt die Ernteproduktivität aufgrund von Herausforderungen wie dem Klimawandel, unwegsamem Gelände und dem Mangel an modernen landwirtschaftlichen Innovationen niedrig. Das Kapitel diskutiert die Notwendigkeit, agroklimatische Zonen neu zu definieren, Innovationen zu fördern und robuste Märkte zu schaffen, um die landwirtschaftliche Entwicklung zu fördern. Sie geht auch auf den Rückgang der landwirtschaftlichen Praktiken in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten ein, der durch Faktoren wie veränderte Ernährungsgewohnheiten und hohe Klimaschwankungen bedingt ist. Die Studie betont die Notwendigkeit nachhaltiger landwirtschaftlicher Praktiken, um die Pflanzenvielfalt zu erhalten und die Widerstandsfähigkeit der bäuerlichen Gemeinschaften gegenüber dem Klimawandel zu gewährleisten.
