Abstract

In the past few years, En-Jui and I have been working on a new Community Velocity Model (CVM) for Southern California by iteratively improving CVM-S4 through both the SI and the AW methods discussed in Chap. 5. Our latest model is named CVM-S4.26, which has been documented in our journal publications. In this chapter, I will discuss the various practical issues encountered during our inversion and compare CVM-S4.26 with our starting model CVM-S4 and the alternative model CVM-H11.9, which incorporated improvements from 16 iterations adjoint tomography. The ample space in this book allows us to show many 2D cross-sections of the three CVMs, which were included in our journal publications. Many of the structural features imaged in CVM-S4.26 have excellent correlation with our understanding of local geology and we hope that CVM-S4.26 will inspire new discussions in the geology community.
