As part of its multi-solution strategy, Mazda has developed a new in-line six-cylinder diesel engine. The "rightsizing unit" with 3.3 l displacement is offered in the CX-60 in two performance levels.

Mazda will offer an all-new diesel engine for its CX-60 large SUV starting in 2023. The 3283 cc in-line six-cylinder engine will be offered in two power levels: The entry-level version produces 147 kW (200 PS) and offers a maximum torque of 450 Nm, which is fed to the rear axle via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Fuel consumption is said to be 4.9 l/100 km according to WLTP.
The more powerful version of the longitudinally mounted diesel engine with 187 kW (254 PS) is equipped with Mazda i-Activ AWD all-wheel drive and offers a maximum torque of 550 Nm. This allows the Mazda CX-60 e-Skyactiv D to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 7.4 s, with a maximum top speed of 219 km/h. WLTP consumption is said to be 5.3 l/100 km.
Efficiency of 40 %
One building block for the good efficiency of the combustion engine is the new combustion process called DCPCI (Distribution-controlled Partially Premixed Compression Ignition). This is expected to improve efficiency, emissions and thermal efficiency. The latter increases to over 40 %. Efficiency is further improved by the new 48 V Mazda M hybrid boost system. The electric motor on the input shaft of the automatic transmission provides an additional 12.4 kW (17 PS) and recuperates braking energy.
Mazda will also offer a new 3.0-l e-Skyactiv X inline-six gasoline engine as part of its multi-solution strategy. This is to use SPCCI compression ignition. In addition, a variant of the electrically powered Mazda MX-30 with a rotary engine as a range extender will be launched as early as 2023. Starting in 2025, Mazda will bring the “Skyactiv EV Scalable Architecture” on which battery electric vehicles of various sizes can be produced.
