Über dieses Buch

Closely related to the frontier research field of “digital technology”, this book reshapes the planning and design process of landscape architecture from theoretical and practical levels. It gives a full-scale discussion to the logic, structure, method, and application of digital landscape architecture, leading this field to a new era of perception-quantification research mode. Readers will get a comprehensive understanding of digital landscape architecture, know about multiple digital methods for landscape planning and design, and learn a lot of practical projects with digital technology. And it will inspire the readers to think about new patterns and approaches to landscape planning, rather than traditional ways. This book is organized under a clear logic, which helps the readers easily get the core of the work. A lot of logic diagrams showing between the theoretical paragraphs highly summarize the key points of the book, providing a better readability and acceptability. This book also contains many detailed drawings and graphics for the project cases, which gives a good demonstration of how digital methods could be applied in practice.

Chapter 1. Significance of Digital Landscape Architecture
Abstract
The concept of digital landscape architecture is deeply rooted in the dual attributes of science and art in landscape architecture. Science is well known for its rationality, available for objective interpretation of the external world, while art resonates with people's cognition of the external world and has perceptual features. These two seemingly quite distinct disciplines are actually united in landscape architecture.

Chapter 2. Logic of Digital Landscape Architecture
Abstract
The logic of digital landscape architecture is to build connections between complex landscape planning and design elements through binary representations and logical methods such as calculations and deductions. This refers to the construction of a logic for learning things in the form of algorithms, i.e., discovering, analyzing and solving problems. In this way, the original experience-based judgment can be transformed into a scientific search for and rational reliance on laws and patterns. This can be fully expressed and presented through the use of digital technology. This logic is used by all current computer programs to analyze and solve problems.

Chapter 3. Structure of Digital Landscape Architecture
Abstract
In the 1960s, theorist L.V. L. Von. Bertalanffy published his monograph named General System Theory: Foundation, Development and Application. The emergence of system theory had a profound impact on human thinking. According to the thought of general system theory, it emphasizes the relevance, integrity, hierarchical structure, dynamic balance and timing of landscape environmental elements, which can represent concepts, views, models and mathematical methods. The landscape architecture design of multi-objective system takes the landscape architectural environment ontology characteristics, basic design principles and design process as the basic framework of digital landscape architecture. Database construction and model building are carried out for the prototype of the multi-objective subsystem of landscape architecture design.

Chapter 4. Digital Landscape Architecture Methodology
Abstract
Digital technology is now widely used in the landscape architecture industry with related methods being continuously explored and studied. The digital technology and method are consistent with the process of landscape architecture planning and design, including the collection of landscape environmental data, the analysis of landscape environmental data, the simulation of landscape architecture design scheme, the digital construction of landscape and landscape performance evaluation. The collection of landscape architecture environmental data includes ecological, morphological and behavioral data.

Chapter 5. Application of Digital Landscape Methods and Technologies
Abstract
Digital technologies and methods have brought about an all-around and whole-process transformation in the landscape architecture industry. Digital landscape methods and technologies can be effectively used in different scales and types of landscape environments. Digital landscape architecture and related technologies largely cover the whole process of landscape architecture planning and design. The process includes preliminary environmental investigation, cognition, and evaluation. It also includes the study and analysis of the site's ecological sensitivity and construction suitability. In addition, the generation, comparison, simulation and optimization of design plans, as well as measurement and control during and after construction are included. Digital technology can greatly improve the accuracy and efficiency of planning and design in such a process. In addition, due to the adoption of a binary data stream, different steps and processes of planning and design can be connected more efficiently. The errors arising from the connection between various steps of design can be reduced.
